Free safe isolation lockout kits for all 1st year Level 3 electrical installation apprentices in Northern Ireland
ETT is delighted to announce its partnership with Electrical Safety First (ESF) to provide free safe isolation lockout kits to all 1st year Level 3 electrical installation apprentices in Northern Ireland 👏
One of the key findings from ETT’s ‘Ending Shock Silence’ report is the failure to carry out safe isolation procedures using ‘lock-off’ kits – a key safety measure in electric shock prevention. It is hoped that this will be a recurring initiative helping to embed safe isolation and its importance at the start of an apprentices career.
The partnership will see ETT visit colleges and training providers in early 2025 to hand out more than 550 kits to 1st year apprentices. It’s vital that safe working procedures are undertaken across the industry, but to be properly effective they need to be established at the start of an electrician’s career.
Charlotte Bamber, Chief Executive of ETT, said: “Adopting safe working practices and procedures is essential and embedding the right approach at the start of an electrician’s career is key. These safe isolation lockout kits not only provide essential safety equipment but also promote safe working practices from the very start of an apprentice’s career.”
Lesley Rudd, Chief Executive of Electrical Safety First commented “A key finding from the survey was the failure to carry out safe isolation procedures, a significant contributor to workplace shocks. To help address this, ESF is pleased to partner with ETT to provide free lock-off kits to apprentices in Northern Ireland. The survey also highlights the need for greater training and awareness around electric shock prevention, particularly for apprentices. By providing lock-off kits, we aim to embed safe working practices from the start of an electrician’s career and establish safe isolation as an ingrained habit.”
These free safe isolation lockouts kits don’t just provide essential safety equipment that will make safe isolation an ingrained habit, they could also make the difference between life or death. Ensuring that the next generation of electricians are educated in safe isolation is essential. This partnership demonstrates the industry’s ongoing commitment to improving safety, enhancing skills and protecting lives.
